NATO has claimed today that it has been noticing an “unusual burst of activity” by Russian fighter jets over the Baltic and Black Sea.
NATO jets had intercepted four groups of Russian fighter planes in a day’s time since yesterday.
It further admitted that Russian jets had not crossed into restricted airspace of NATO and that they were exercising their right to fly in international airspace.
Tomasz Siemoniak (Polish Defence Minister) has said he wants stronger NATO presence in his region. He also hinted that Poland was drawing up a long- term plan to shift some of its military strength towards its eastern border, closer to Ukraine and Russia. This move might be seen as provocative by Moscow and may cause unrest.
