Russia’s TV channel has recently shown what it called “sensational” photographs, which it said reinforced Moscow’s views that the flight MH17 of Malaysia Airlines was shot down by a fighter jet of Ukrainian air force.
On the other hand, critics who have seen the photographs have pronounced them as forgeries.
The photographs, said to be taken by a Western satellite, show a fighter jet firing a missile at a commercial plane over eastern Ukraine pointing towards the same place where the Malaysian airliner was shot down on July 17 this year. In that unfortunate accident, 298 people died.
Contrary to Russian statement, the Western officials say evidence suggests the airliner was hit by a surface-to-air missile which was fired by pro-Russian separatist rebels.
The photographs were aired last day evening on a news show. Images had been sent to a Russian expert by a man called George Bilt, a graduate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The photographs have met with widespread skepticism since when aired by Channel One.
