The PAK FA T-50 is a Russian 5th generation fighter jet to compete with the US based Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. The aircraft is manufactured by Sukhoi and is intended to be the successor to the MiG-29 and Su-27 in the Russian arsenal.
The first prototype had its maiden flight almost four years ago. The Russian Defense Ministry plans to purchase 10 evaluation aircraft first and then 60 production standard aircraft post 2016.
The first batch of fighters will be having engines based on existing technologies. The aircraft is expected to have a service life of about 30 to 35 years.
